These treatments are another technique our spa uses to improve your skin’s appearance. Basically, with this method a chemical is applied to the skin and that makes it blister (which sounds worse than it really is, we promise!). This “blistered” skin then peels off and the new skin is smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.
Chemical peels reduce fine lines under your eyes, or around your mouth. The treatment also works on wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging, and it can improve the look of mild acne scarring. We’ve watched the procedure reduce age spots, fade freckles, and even handle the dark patches that stem from pregnancy or taking birth control pills. Even areas of sun damage often improve after chemical peeling.
The recipient should know this: After a chemical peel, your skin will be more sensitive to the sun’s rays. This condition is only temporary, but after a chemical peel you should wear sunscreen every day, for at least a week. The product you choose should list “broad-spectrum” on the label, which means it protects against both UVA and UVB rays. You also will need to select protection above SPF 30. Either way, following a chemical peel you will want to limit your time in the sun, especially around midday.
In general, patients with either fair skin and lighter hair are better candidates for this treatment. If you do have darker skin, you can benefit from stronger results, depending on the kind of problem you’re out to solve. Finally, we strongly urge you to consult your dermatologist to determine the depth of the peel that is right for you. If you do not have a dermatologist, our trained estheticians can aid you in selecting a peel that will work best for you, your goals, and your skin type
